The number of spectators in the KBO (Korea
Baseball Organization) has exceeded 10 million this year. As baseball is
becoming more popular these days, the amount of Korean baseball content on
YouTube and Instagram is growing rapidly as well. So, today we would like to
introduce you to the culture of Korean baseball stadiums.
First of all, the biggest feature of Korean
baseball stadiums is food. Korean baseball stadiums not only have plenty of
various restaurants inside the stadium, but also allow outside food. In
addition, there are usually many places where takeout or delivery is possible
nearby. Every baseball stadium has its own list of good restaurants located
nearby.

The representative baseball stadium food
menu is chicken or pizza or any kind of finger food that goes well with beer.
For example, Jamsil Stadium even has a popular menu called “One Shot Chicken”,
which lets you enjoy three-in-one, beer, chicken and fries, at once. And if you
prefer any other food or beverage, you can buy those inside the stadium as well.
Usually people buy Cass, Terra or Kloud, Korea's representative beers.

Some stadiums even have a barbecue zone
where you can grill meat by yourself. Such zones usually have table seats that
allow you to comfortably enjoy the food. Of course, barbecue zones are more
expensive, but they give the baseball fans more freedom and comfort during the
long games. It is worth mentioning that people have to bring their own
equipment, including grill, utensils and food if they want to grill meat at a
barbecue zone. However, since Korean BBQ is a popular food option for baseball
game, at some stadiums they sell grilled pork in boxes.

At some stadiums, there are also unique
seating options such as the “Rocket Battery Zone” at Lotte Sajik Stadium in
Busan, where you can enjoy a camping-like experience, or the “Dinos Bus Seats"
at NC Masan Stadium. The "Dinos Bus Seats" are made from actual seats
that the NC Dinos players used on the team bus. When the team replaced their
bus, they removed the seats and installed them in the stadium. These seats are
wide and are located on the third floor of the first-base seating area,
offering a panoramic view of Masan Stadium. Near the right foul pole, 24
"Dinos Mattresses" have been set up. These are similar to the
protective pads installed on the infield and outfield fences at Masan Stadium,
and they allow fans to lie down or lean comfortably while watching the game.

Another unique feature is the cheering
culture. While many countries have their own cheering traditions, in Korea,
cheerleaders lead their cheers throughout the entire game to encourage
spectators and to motivate their team. Moreover, each baseball team player
has their own cheer song. Most of the time during the game, baseball fans stand
up and sing along to the cheer songs, creating a lively and enjoyable
atmosphere during the game.

Baseball fans from other countries, who
visited Korean stadiums and had a chance to experience Korean baseball stadium
food and cheering culture, usually say that it was an entirely new baseball
game experience for them. If you're planning a trip to Korea, why not add a
visit to stadiums like Jamsil Stadium and Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul or Sajik
Stadium in Busan to your itinerary?
