On July 11 at 1 PM KST, the global K-pop
phenomenon dropped their new digital single “JUMP” alongside a cinematic music
video, sending fans into a frenzy. It’s their first group release in nearly
three years, and it’s already dominating global charts and YouTube trending
rankings.
Though the release date was official, the
surprise premiere happened days earlier – during the group’s concert at Goyang
Sports Complex, the opening venue of their brand-new “DEADLINE” world tour. The
move not only caught fans off guard but also set the tone for what’s shaping up
to be a high-powered comeback.

Directed by Dave Meyers – the
Grammy-winning director behind music videos for BLACKPINK’s past hits and Lisa’s
recent solo track “New Woman” – the “JUMP” MV is a feast for the eyes. The
video kicks off with a superhero-style flying sequence straight out of a Marvel
film, before launching into a kaleidoscope of color, energy, and
tongue-in-cheek visual storytelling.

From graffiti-covered walls to chaotic
cityscapes, the members – Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa – unleash their
charisma in full force. One standout scene features the girls jumping into the
heads and mouths of onlookers – a surreal yet hilarious visual that’s drawing
comparisons to Pixar’s Inside Out. Everywhere they go, schoolkids, elders, and
everyday people break into dance, overwhelmed by the group’s infectious energy.
It’s cheeky, confident, and everything you'd expect from BLACKPINK – except
even more vivid and weird (in the best way).

Musically, “JUMP” is a major departure from
BLACKPINK’s previous work. The song trades their usual polished pop-glam style
for something raw, guitar-driven, and unpredictable. A thundering drum beat,
Western-style electric guitar riffs, and an earworm of a repetitive chorus
create a high-octane track that pushes the group into new sonic territory.

The track was produced by Teddy and 24,
long-time collaborators responsible for many of BLACKPINK’s biggest hits. But
this time, they teamed up with international songwriters to craft a sound that’s
both familiar and refreshing. According to YG Entertainment, the group’s
agency, this genre shift is meant to “expand BLACKPINK’s musical spectrum and
offer a new kind of excitement.” Indeed, this is BLACKPINK in evolution mode
– still fierce, still iconic, but exploring new ways to get the world dancing.

BLACKPINK’s “JUMP” isn’t just a comeback
single. It’s the anthem of their ongoing “DEADLINE” world tour, which kicked
off earlier this month in Korea. The tour includes 31 stadium-level concerts
across 16 cities, with upcoming shows in Los Angeles, Paris, London, Toronto,
Milan, and Bangkok.

The Goyang concert, where “JUMP” was first
performed live, was met with explosive energy, giving fans a glimpse of the
group’s renewed chemistry as a full unit. YG Entertainment highlighted the “perfect
synergy” between the four members, calling this comeback a reaffirmation of
BLACKPINK’s global dominance.

As a group, BLACKPINK has kept a relatively
low profile since their last full-length album “BORN PINK” in 2022, aside from
releasing the game OST “The Girls” in 2023. The hiatus only fueled fan
anticipation – and each member kept busy with solo endeavors.

Jennie released her single “You & Me,”
starred in The Idol on HBO, and launched her own label. Jisoo made her solo
debut with “FLOWER” and was cast in different acting projects. Lisa continued
global brand promotions, performed at events like Crazy Horse Paris, and
recently dropped “Rockstar” under her own label, LLOUD. Rosé has been working
on her solo music and attending major fashion and cultural events.

Their reunion with “JUMP” is a celebration of
their music, but also of their individual growth and continued cultural impact.
BLACKPINK’s world tour continues throughout
the summer and fall, and if the “JUMP” release is any indication, more
surprises may be in store. So, get ready. The girls aren’t just back – they’re
jumping into a new era.
